Nominations Open For 2017 Bellmon Sustainability Awards!

2017 Bellmon nominations are open

Applications are now being accepted for 2017 Bellmon Sustainability Awards, a statewide recognition by Sustainable Tulsa and the Rotary Club of Southside Tulsa.

“The Bellmon Awards recognize and reward extraordinary Oklahoma individuals, agencies, organizations, tribes, communities, and companies that have shown leadership in sustainability and are improving the livability of our communities,” said Corey Williams, executive director of Sustainable Tulsa. “These award winners know that investment in social capital and environmental capital builds financial capital.”

Each year, Sustainable Tulsa and the Rotary Club of Southside Tulsa conduct a rigorous evaluation of scores of applicants to identify those four that exemplify sustainable leadership in the areas of quality of life, responsible economic growth, and environmental stewardship.

Known as the “triple bottom line,” or People, Profit, Planet, this accounting framework measures performance beyond the traditional measures of profits, return on investment, and shareholder value to include environmental and social dimensions.

Awards are given in the following categories:

People: Quality of Life for All

Profit: Responsible Economic Growth

Planet: Environmental Stewardship

The hallmark Henry Bellmon Award recognizes leadership and effectiveness in each of the triple bottom line categories.

“Henry Bellmon was an early champion of sustainability in Oklahoma,” said Williams. “Even though the motto would become well known only years later, we have no doubt Henry Bellmon would embrace a commitment to people, profit and planet. That is why we honor him as the namesake for the annual Oklahoma awards for stewardship and sustainability.”

Nominations are open until June 6th, so be sure to submit your application soon!
